Caribbean communicators and health promoters participate in С��-led workshop on Risk Communications and Community Engagement

Miami, Florida, May 14, 2024 (С��) -- Ministry of Health representatives from 24 Caribbean countries took part in a С�� (С��) workshop aimed at strengthening the use of risk communications and community engagement (RCCE), to manage and mitigate health emergencies and improve vaccine uptake.

New guidance aims to reduce bloodstream infections from catheter use

The World Health Organization (WHO) publishes the first global guidelines to prevent the occurrence of bloodstream and other infections caused by use of catheters placed in minor blood vessels during medical procedures.

Poor practices in the insertion, maintenance, and removal of these catheters carry a high risk of introducing germs directly to the bloodstream, which can lead to serious conditions such as sepsis, and difficult-to-treat complications in major organs like the brain and kidneys. Soft tissue infections at the insertion site of the catheter can also occur.

Bridgetown, Barbados, 7 May, 2024.- A total of 30 mental health professionals from 18 Caribbean countries and territories are participating from 7 to 10 May on the first Caribbean-focused QualityRights workshop, aiming to catalyze positive changes in mental health services across the Caribbean. QualityRights is World Health Organization (WHO) global initiative to improve the quality of care provided by mental health and social services and promote the human rights of people with mental health conditions and psychosocial, intellectual, or cognitive disabilities.

The С�� Strategic Fund, in collaboration with the Regional Malaria Program, has developed an innovative tool for planning antimalarial medicine needs using the morbidity method, which includes aspects of the elimination strategy and considers local stratification to maintain minimum inventories of treatments distributed based on risk level, protocols, and parasitic resistance profile.
